16k psychotics live in NI

ALMOST 16k people in Northern Ireland are known to have schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and other psychoses, the Health Minister has revealed.

According to the Quality & Outcomes Framework (QOF) of the General Medical Services contract, the total number of GP registered patients with the psychoses is 15,709.

Mr Poots also revealed that 182,525 in Northern Ireland are on the depression register, which is roughly, one in 10.

In Londonderry one in seven people (11,918) are registered with depression.

A further 11,882 people are registered as having dementia.
