Outstanding performances by pupils at Lismore

Lismore saw a 10% increase in the amount of pupils achieving at least five GCSE grades between A* and C, including in English and Maths.

Principal, Mrs Fiona Kane, commended the students. She said: “We are very pleased at the excellent GCSE results achieved by our students. We know that a pupil’s ability is not fixed at age 11 and so we focus on our core business of learning and teaching to raise the expectations of all of our students, to enable them to develop all their skills, gifts and talents to achieve their potential.”

A number of students did especially well in their GCSEs, with twins Jake and Joshua Coleman achieving the highest grades.

Top achievers included: Jake Coleman with 3A*s, 6As, 1B; Joshua Coleman with 4A*s, 4As, 2Bs; Daire Madine with 4A*s, 2As, 3Bs; Courtney Morgan with 2A*s, 4As, 1B, 1C; and Nicole O’Connor with 2A*s, 4As, 3Bs.

Also receiving A*s and As were: Fiontan Campbell with 7As and 2Bs; Sorcha Devlin with 1A*, 4As, 4Bs; Rachel McCaughley with 1A*, 5As, 2Bs, 1C; Harry McGoldrick with 1A*, 3As, 4Bs; Adam McShane with 6As and 3Bs; Joao Filipe Mendes with 3A*s, 2As, 5Bs; Alicia McKeown with 1A*, 4As, 3Bs and 1C; and Holly McConville with 5As, 3Bs and 1C.

Mrs Kane added, “The ‘value added’ by the educational experience offered in Lismore is clearly evident today with a 10% increase on last year in the important category of pupils achieving five or more GCSE passes at Grades A*-C, including achieving success in their GCSE English and GCSE Maths. The hard work and professionalism of all staff, including our subject teachers, form tutors, heads of department, heads of year, supported by the senior leadership team, have all contributed to this success.

“The ethos of Lismore nurtures each and every child, and so working and learning in our school is really being part of a caring family - with Lismore becoming an extension of the home - and I would like to thank all of our parents who work in partnership with us to draw out the best in their child and thank them for their continued support.” Mrs Kane added: “Exciting times now lie ahead for our students as they choose their Level 3 subjects, and I look forward to welcoming them back into Sixth Form.”
