You could be the next Evita

Taltented singers from Londonderry are being encouraged to take part in the search by Music Theatre 4 Youth (MT4Uth) later this month to find 60 talented young people to take part in their summer residential and performance of Evita the musical.

The auditions will take place on May 24 and 25 at T13, Belfast, when judges Nick and Niamh will be joined on the panel by actors Henry Gilbert and Wayne Fitzsimmons who will choose the cast.

Following successful auditions, the appointed cast will take part in MT4Uth’s Evita summer residential taking place on August 15 to 23 at Rockport School, Bangor, in preparation for three public performances at T13 between August 22 and 23.

The production will be directed by a top team from London including Polly Bennett, Movement Director of the London 2012 Opening Olympics Ceremony, Anthoula Papdakis, choreographer of numerous European tours of Evita, Nick Lloyd Webber, composer and son of impresario Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and west end starlet Niamh Perry.

Supported by funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, MT4Uth offers exceptional opportunities in pre-professional musical theatre training for young people aged 13 to 21 years, through workshops, master classes and residential courses led by industry professionals who are working on the international stage.

Ciaran Scullion, Head of Music, at the Arts Council, commented, “It is vital that we offer our young people opportunities to access and experience the richness of the arts and develop their cultural life to add to their sense of wellbeing. I wish MT4Uth and the outstanding artistic team they have gathered every success with their production of Evita and look forward to seeing our future stars on stage this summer.”

Composer Nick Lloyd Webber, who is also the charity’s newest Patron, commented, “I was blown away by the talent in Musical Theatre 4 Youth. They are a truly moving and innovative company, with alumni to prove that the training at MT4Uth really is in a league of its own. I know I will see their current participant’s talent shine on a west end stage very soon and look forward to working with the cast this summer.”

Singer, actress and star of the BBC’s I’d Do Anything, Niamh Perry who is a past member of MT4Uth said, “I couldn’t have performed in such a variety of West end roles without the top level training I received from the world-class MT4Uth artistic team.”
