Pay*ola are set to launch new album

LOCAL rock'n'roll band Pay*ola are set to launch their long awaited second album – Optimism Will Destroy Me – with a suitably prestigious show in the city's Empire Music Hall on Thursday April 22.

Doors for the gig open at 8.30pm, and admission is a snip at 5 – especially considering the stellar support line-up on the night – namely Belfast rock/punk legends The Dangerfields, fast-rising funksters The Dead Presidents and quality melodic rock act Redlight.

'Optimism Will Destroy Me' is the product of three years work, and the follow-up to the hugely well received Try Everything Twice album.

The 10-track collection was recorded at Co. Antrim's Manor Park Studios with producer Neal Calderwood – a long-time Pay*ola collaborator, renowned as one of the finest on the island.

The album contains the cream of Pay*ola's last two EP releases, with a clutch of brand new tunes.

The material showcases the full range of the band's songwriting, from the driving, hook-laden hard rock of Blindside, The Colour Red and The Battle, to the more laid-back and rootsy Hallelujah Town and the power-pop melodicism of O Girl! And Going To Warsaw – itself a tale of Phil & Nick Payola's New York adventures.

The boys, who have previously released records on the Good Vibrations and Tomcat Records labels will be handling this album on their own Pay*ola Records imprint.

The album will be available on a large range of download sites, including iTunes and Amazon mp3 shortly after the launch night – which will be the first occasion that the physical cd version will be available anywhere.
