Lisburn students win tickets to Macbeth

THIRTY students from Laurelhill Community College in Lisburn travelled to the Lyric Theatre to enjoy a production of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

The school were the lucky winners of a competition by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and supported by U105, run as part of the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen’s.

The two-part prize included tickets to the production, which is currently on the GCSE English Literature syllabus, and a visit to Laurelhill by members of the cast and facilitators to deliver a workshop. The workshop will take an in-depth look at the themes of the text, offering an invaluable insight into one of Shakespeare’s most well-known plays.

Pat Hines, teacher form Laurelhill Community College said: “I was extremely excited to hear that Laurel Hill had won the U105 competition. Far too few young people today get to experience live theatre, let alone Shakespeare. Also, to be able to see a live performance of a play that our GCSE English Literature pupils are actually studying at the minute is invaluable. Many thanks to the Arts Council, U105 and The Lyric Theatre.”
