Croaghan Way -anyone fancy a walk in the country?

Ballymoney Borough Council is pleased to announce the next Countryside Event in the 2014 Programme.

Celebrate the launch of the Bogs of Ballymoney project with this more challenging 3-4 mile walk on the Croaghan Way, within the Antrim Coast & Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This event offers participants the opportunity to experience the beauty of one of Ballymoney’s bog land areas, one of a few within a designated Area of Special Scientific Interest. It is an area of blanket bog and montane heath dominated by heather with cross-leaved heath and hare’s tail cottongrass. Hen harrier and merlin are found in the area. There is one steep hill climb, including open heath/moorland terrain which will be marshy underfoot.

A moderate to good level of fitness is required for this event. Walkers must bring warm, waterproof clothing/footwear and carry refreshments. Assembly point: Altarichard Car Park, Altarichard Road at 6.30pm accessed via the Orra Scenic Route.
