Pitched as essential viewing, book to see Gareth Pearson, the Welsh whirlwind of fingerstyle guitar at the Island Arts Centre on Saturday February 26 at 8pm.

With influences like Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and Merle Travis, you can expect everything from funk-driven blues to classically-touched jazz standards, with Irish traditional music, bluegrass, progressive and even includes arrangements of Michael Jackson and Radiohead hits.

Pearson’s fingerstyle pyrotechnics and distinctive style has earned him respect from illustrious guitar legends.

Jan Akkerman called him a genius and Tommy Emmanuel was inspired to write a song about him which he named ‘The Welsh Tornado’.

Gareth is signed to the American based Guitar Label, Candyrat Records. He was the first UK guitar player to be signed by the label.

His first studio recording Urban Echoes vol.1 was released June 2010 on CandyRat Records.

Gareth’s special guest is Belfast’s David Browne-Murray [aka DBM], another fingerstyle guitarist who is making waves since he won the prestigious Yamaha Six String Guitar Competition in the USA.
