Lisburn City Library is to host ‘Sisters, Surgeons and Soldiers on the Somme’, an illustrated presentation by Dr Yvonne McEwen of the Univerity of Edinburgh’s Centre for the Study of Modern Conflict, on August 26 from 1-2pm.
Author of ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary: British and Irish nurses in the Great War’ (2006) and ‘In the company of nurses: the history of the British Army nursing service in the Great War’ (2014), Dr McEwen will discuss 144 days of casualty management on the Somme.
Libraries NI is hosting a series of such illustrated presentations to commemorate the Decade of Centenaries.
