The Shamrock Tenors strike a chord in the US

Local band, the Shamrock Tenors, are set to take America by storm.

The year 2020 should have seen the group perform in cities such as Los Angeles and Sydney, and as far afield as Bora Bora.

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 crisis put an end to all of those concerts and like many people working in the arts they have had to wait for the industry to get back on its feet again.

Rather than let the current pandemic stop them in their tracks they decided to self-produce a streamed concert, as part of the Live at the Ulster Hall series.

The concert proved to be a major success and has led to them getting approached to work with a number of American producers.

A video of their performance of ‘Auld Lang Syne’ was released on New Year’s Eve and within three days it had gained over 100,000 views online.

This weekend will see the band perform at the Association of Performing Arts Professionals in New York City and they have signed on to be a part of a PBS television special with Emmy nominated Irish singer and producer Michael Londra.

Matthew Campbell, singer and musician with the group, said: “It has been an absolutely crazy start to 2021.

“Like many people across the world, 2020 was an incredibly difficult year for us and we lost out on some absolutely dream gigs and opportunities.

“We decided that we needed to get the ball rolling as soon as possible so a streamed concert seemed like the most logical and safest way to do that.”

Producer and singer with Shamrock Tenors, Raymond Walsh added: “We could never have imagined the attention and success the stream would bring.

“It’s crazy to think that we will start the year off by performing for hundreds of tour bookers in New York City and then later in the year we will be making our American television debut.

“I’d have been happy if we had have had a gig organised for our back garden so we’re so grateful to everyone that continues to support the band.”

This year will see the Shamrock Tenors release their debut album, as well as a number of concerts that will be performed here in Northern Ireland.
