Covid proves positive for Lisburn musicians

A chance meeting between Susy Good and Jon Wilson resulted in a new musical collaboration and the release of their debut song.

Susy was attending the Hillsong College in Sydney studying leadership and music when she was forced to end the course and return home earlier this year. She is now due to finish the remainder of her course online.

Susy, who wrote her first song aged 11, posted a cover of a Finneas song on Instagram whilst in a three week quarantine period after returning home. Little did she know that Jon, who was in the throes of giving up on his musical dream, saw it and within days they linked up. The result was Good Thing, an apt name for their new band with a new single called Love Like That the result.

Susy admits that sometimes out of a crisis an opportunity follows and that is exactly what has happened.

“I knew Jon since 2013,” she explained. “He had been producing music since then but due to travel and study I had lost contact. I was pleasantly surprised when he picked up on my Instagram post and the result is our first music collaboration.

“I was getting over the disappointment of having to leave Sydney before my course finished and return home as my savings were running out. I had planned to release the songs that I wrote in Australia and had no idea Jon would become my music partner.”

Whilst at College in Sydney, Susy had already got the taste for live performances as she got to perform in a choir in front of 30,000 people. She also had regular appearances performing her own music at the college’s Night of Music In her spare time, she also taught music to children in schools around Sydney.

Given her reunion with Jon, Susy cannot wait to the restrictions on live performances are lifted so they both can perform their work. For them that can only be a Good Thing.
