Wright recognised for Whites' resurgence with Manager's award

LISBURN Distillery have had a new lease of life of late, which has seen them go on a six game unbeaten run as they bid to maintain their Premiership status.

The Whites' resurgence has been carefully nurtured by boss Tommy Wright, who today picked up the Carling Northern Ireland Football Writers Association Manger of the Month award for March for his efforts.

When Wright joined the club in September, the Whites were rooted to the bottom of the table and there looked to be no way out.

However, an astonishing up-turn in performances has seen the Whites defy the odds and climb to within one point of their near rivals Institute, who they will face in a titanic showdown at New Grosvenor tomorrow (Saturday), with the Whites still having a vital game in hand.

Wright has instilled a new-found belief in his squad and deservingly claims the fourth Manager of the Month award of his career.

"I accept this award on behalf of my team after what has been a terrific month for usm" said Wright.

"It's certainly been a tough year but the boys have grouped together and hopefully are going in the right direction.

"I'm also delighted Neal Gawley was second in the player award; maybe I can take some credit after switching him from a winger to a striker," he joked.

Carling's Niall McMullan said, "After a remarkable four weeks, Tommy fully deserves to be named Carling Manager of the Month for March. The turnaround at Distillery has been dramatic and shows how exciting the Carling Premiership is. Carling is delighted to be at the heart of local football, supporting local talent, and bringing local people back to the game."
