Winter League dinner at Lisburn

THE annual Winter League dinner was held in Lisburn Golf Club last Friday night.

After being served an excellent meal by Jane and Albert the captain, Dr. Sam Moore welcomed the members and thanked all those who had helped organise the weekly competitions and finalised the overall section winners.

The Lisburn team which represented the club in the finals at Portstewart had performed with great credit despite the bitterly cold wind. They finished second to the locals but well ahead of Clandeboye.

The captain also thanked all those who had helped with the organisation of the dinner. He also made reference to Ivor McCandless who was recently appointed President of the Golfing Union of Ireland. The captain wished Mr and Mrs McCandless an enjoyable visit to Augusta to watch the Masters.

Main prize winners: Section 1 - Trevor Murphy, Section 2 - Mervyn Hewitt, Section 3 - Eddie Rowan and Section 4 - Joe Davey.

Michael McNeice (18) and Stephen Jeffers (14) won the very popular Mark McKinstry fourball betterball competition with 46 points.

After accumulating a massive 25 points on the front nine they combined well to score 21 points on the back nine and win by three points from David Payne (18) and David Bolas (5). Chris Kelly (14) and Barry Cathcart (18) had every chance to come second but finished with a double bogey five to lose out on count-back.

The winners qualify for the next round in the GUI Ulster Branch Centenary competition.
