Wallace girls return from successful Amsterdam tour

THE U14 Wallace Girls Hockey Squads have recently returned from a very successful four day hockey tour to Amsterdam.

After a very early start on the first day at 5.00am and a fun day at Europe’s largest indoor water park the U14’s were eagerly anticipating the first round of matches against De Kieviten HC.

Although the A’s and B’s lost both matches, they competed magnificently and learnt a lot from the match.

After that it was time to watch a professional ladies match in Amsterdam and gain some inspiration in preparation for the next round of matches.

On the Monday morning the U14’s received a masterclass coaching session from a former Dutch international and in the afternoon it was time for the next lot of matches against Bloemendaal H.C. Again the B’s fought valiantly, but it was not to be and they lost 4-2, with Rebecca McGladdery scoring the goals.

The A team were 1-0 down at half time but fought back magnificently to level the scores through a wonderful goal from Masha Morwood. The entire team played the match of their lives and in the dying minutes of the game were rewarded for their efforts when Chloe McCoosh scored the winner.

To round off a very enjoyable tour the last day consisted of a canal cruise and lots of shopping.

Overall the tour was a great success and the girls were great ambassadors on behalf of Wallace High School. Thanks to all those who supported the tour, in particular Lisburn Travel Clinic who provided the tour hoodies.
