Valley take Banbridge B all the way in agonising defeat

Lagan Valley bowed out of the IBA Junior Cup after losing the third round tie away to Banbridge B last Saturday evening.

The match had a scheduled 5.30pm start and escaped the earlier heavy rain. They even enjoyed some evening sunshine.

Banbridge compete two divisions above Valley and it took the Lisburn team’s best performance of the season to really take the game to their opponents. Valley battled throughout before losing by an agonising three shot margin.

At the tenth, George Murdoch was 12-4 ahead and 15-12 at 15 ends before lifting five and three at 19 and 20 ends to win by five shots.

Jim Kinkead was 11-8 up at the tenth but was 11-18 down at 15 ends and lost by eight shots.

Down 7-10 at the tenth and 10-14 at 15 ends, Jeff Fawcus lost by seven shots.

Billy Hobson was 11-5 ahead at the tenth and 15-10 at 15 ends before going on to win by an impressive seven clear shots.
