Alpha’s Stuart Lightbody felt unwell in the early hours of Friday morning and was then rushed to the A&E in Craigavon where he had his appendix taken out before the day was out.

Stuart has been enjoying a fair degree of success over the past couple of seasons particularly in mixed doubles playing with Caroline Black, and the pair are ranked 56 in Europe and were previously runners-up in Ulster and Leinster Opens and the Irish Futures Series while in Estonia Stuart was due to meet Loic Mittelheisser (France) in the singles.

Lightbody, however, typically didn’t neglect his captaincy of Alpha Armadillos in Monday night’s Ulster League clash and whilst looking decidedly weak was on hand to give his side some encouragement and saw off the rest of the squad bound for Estonia.
