Tough away match for South Ladies as they suffer their worst defeat of the season on visit to Bangor

South Ladies had a tough away match to a strong Bangor side suffering their worst defeat of the season.

After making a promising start and sitting mid table the ladies have been growing in confidence especially after getting to the next round of the Minor Cup.

Bangor got off to a great start and were rewarded with some strong play into the South circle when their centre forward slotted the ball past the South keeper.

The young side responded well with Anna McFarlane and Rachel O’Sullivan playing some good attacking hockey down the right. A great strike by Anna across the goal failed to be picked up and was neatly cleared by the strong Bangor defence.

Tirelessly

Amy Wright, working tirelessly in midfield, again gave South another great chance and was unlucky not to put the match level at half time.

Bangor came out with a more determined effort and eventually were rewarded when they managed to convert one of their penalty corners.

The South keeper, Catherine Growcott, kept the team in the match with some fine saves but South were unable to build their play into the Bangor half.

Continued Bangor pressure gave the seasiders two late goals. The ladies will hope to bounce back against Dungannon next week in the next round of the Minor Cup.
