Topping hopes to turn the clock back

Former Alpha player Mark Topping returns to the venue this weekend, where he will be hoping to add the Roadside Motors Lisburn Ulster Masters title to his illustrious badminton career.

Mark lifted a total of five National doubles titles with his brother Bruce in the 2000-2005 era having won his first senior international cap in the 1993-94 season.

The former Alpha player can still compete with the best in the country having narrowly missed out on reaching the Irish National Senior final earlier this month.

Graham Henderson and Topping will not, however, have Niall Gannon and Brian McGowan, whom they defeated in the final of the Irish, to face but the top seeds in that competition Michael Turkington and Michael Watt will be hoping that there are no slip ups this time having failed to get out of the group stages and were beaten by Nigel Boyne and Kevin Donnelly, 21-19 22-20.

Tournament organiser William Martin said: “The good entry sees players from all four provinces taking part, including many who won titles at last month’s Irish Masters in Lisburn.”
