Tense finals in snooker league individuals

THE Senior and Junior individual finals in the Patterson’s Electrical Lisburn & District Snooker League were played with both matches going down to the wire.

In the Seniors first it was an all Highwaymen clash in this final with Paul Benson and Gordon Boomer fighting it out to see who would be crowned individuals champion. The match was best of 7 frames and it was Gordon who won the first frame with a 35 clearance to pinch it on the black.

Paul responded and took frame two with some excellent potting and then continued his good match play taking a 2-1 lead. The match was level after 4 frames and then Gordon made it 3-2 to be just one frame away from victory.

The sixth frame was to and fro and eventually went down to a black ball fight. Paul had a chance at a black to make it 3-3 but missed and left his opponent a tough shot which Gordon potted to win his third Individual title.

In the Juniors final it was certainly an entertaining one in regards to a close finish. In the final was Mark Magee against Jerome Lenfesty. Mark got out of the blocks quickly and took the first frame to pile on the pressure against his opponent however Jerome has bags of experience and got himself back in the match by winning frame two. Mark won frame three but this was cancelled out again when Jerome won frame four to take the match into a final frame decider.

Jerome’s experience was giving him the edge in this nervy final frame, he was 20 points in front needing one ball to clinch victory.

Jerome had his opportunity and potted a superb brown and for about 5 seconds was the champion until the white ball trickled into the bottom pocket giving Mark four points.

Mark held his nerve and potted a nice brown and then blue to leave himself an awkward pink which he potted to perfection to leave himself absolutely perfect on the black ball which he potted to win his first ever trophy.
