Successful Dutch tour for Wallace girls

WALLACE 1st and 2ndX1 girls’ hockey teams have recently returned from a very successful tour to Holland.

Both teams played two matches and had a masterclass coaching session with two Dutch players. The 1stX1 produced their best hockey of the season and recorded two victories, 6-2 and 8-1 over U17 Dutch club sides. Laura Murray and Captain Lisa MacDonnell both scored hat- tricks. Steffi Baron produced two excellent performances in midfield whilst defenders Tamilla Matchett, Zara Kirkwood and goal keeper Leah Young definitely raised their games and prevented many Dutch attacks.

The 2nd X1 won their first game 3-0 with Rebecca Baird and year 11 pupil Masha Morwood scoring the goals. They lost their second game by 1-0. Evie Dornan, Lesley Coey and Catherine Harrison all playing very well.

The girls were also taken on a coastal cycle as an alternative training exercise. They spent their final day in Amsterdam and visited the Anne Frank museum, which they found an extremely moving experience.

Both teams gained vital experience from this tour which will prove invaluable as they embark on their respective cup campaigns this week.

The 2nd XI play Dromore in the second round of McDowell cup. The 1st XI play Coleraine High in the second round of the senior School’s cup on Wednesday November 21 at Lisnagarvey (2.45pm pass back).

Finally on behalf of the girls hockey club congratulations to Laura Murray who was a member of the successful Ulster U18 squad at the recent inter-pros and has been rewarded with an Irish U18 trial after her excellent performances.
