South ladies Seconds suffer defeat as well organised Queen’s win

South Antrims Ladies Seconds suffered their second defeat of the New Year with a 5-0 loss against a well organised Queens Fourths at the Dub playing fields.

Queens got off to a rocking start by scoring from close range catching the Lisburn women before they had a chance to settle.

South created a few chances with Natalie Lowry working hard in midfield and Laura McConnell making her presence felt down the left had side.

Queens bounced back and again from close range picked up a rebound and placed the ball in the back of the net.

A third followed with a close range shot high into the top left hand corner.

After some re-organisation at half time South started the second half attacking the Queens defence with the energetic Catherine Faulkner combining well with Amy Duncan to send a shot hurtling towards the goal but it was well saved.

Emma Tweedie making some fine running down the right helped pile on the pressure but the well organized Queens defence were able to keep their 3-0 lead.

Against the run of play Queens won a short corner and with a well struck shot slotted the ball into the corner of the net.

A further mistake in the circle let the Queens forward score just before the final whistle.

The Lisburn women travel to Coleraine next week hoping to get their first points of the New Year. Many thanks to Gillian Neill for umpiring and well done to Carol Redpath making her debut in goals as player of the match.
