Smyth is smiling after Captain's Day win

Captain Gerry McDonald was delighted with the perfect weather and the turn-out, but nobody performed better than Andrew (20), who bagged 44 points.

His round included ten pars and only one bad hole, a triple bogey at 15 which very easily could have cost him the win. Andrew played in the Irish Fourball recently for the first time and he and his partner, Chris Johnston remain unbeaten. His big win, then, is no flash in the pan.

Pipped at the post with 43 points was another in-form player, Bobby Meehan (22).

Bobby has already won three competitions this year and but made a bad start on the front nine. He got back on form and finished with an excellent back nine with pars at 17 and 18. Beaten on the count-back for second was Aaron Smylie and Wilbert Lyons won third with 41 points.

Using a shot-gun start once again proved very successful with everyone arriving back in the clubhouse together. This created a great atmosphere as members mingled and stayed on for the prize giving.

Captain’s Day dinner and prize giving was held at the Beechlawn Hotel that evening.

Lambeg Matchplay

The Lambeg Matchplay competition sponsored by the Chipped Potato has now reached the last 16. Competition is fierce with quite a few matches going to play-off holes and one in particular went to the 27th hole!
