Four days of top class competition will take place at Balmoral Park from July 13-16 and Lisburn City Council is delighted to be supporting this well-established event.

Show Jumping Ireland (Ulster Region) is responsible for delivering the annual ‘National Balmoral Championships’, which is the culmination of all the major championships alongside three major Grand Prix competitions.

This popular event will attract the biggest names in Irish Show Jumping to Lisburn for the four days of the Championships.

Lisburn City Council’s Leisure Services Committee and Economic Development Committee have agreed to provide support to this event which was first held in Lisburn last year.

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, speaking about this event, said: “I am delighted that the Council is giving its support to this prestigious event.

“During the year, the Council offers assistance to a number of sporting events and tournaments and it is refreshing to have the opportunity to support an equestrian event.

“Show jumping is a sport that draws participants and spectators, of all ages, but one which everyone can enjoy.

“Admission to the 28th National Balmoral Championship is free and will offer entertainment and the opportunity to enjoy food and retail outlets in addition to the equestrian events.”

Sky Sports will be providing coverage of this year’s event which will be attended by the best riders in Ireland and their exceptional equine partners.

Alderman Allan Ewart, Chairman of the Council’s Economic Development Committee, added: “I hope that this event continues to attract thousands of visitors and that they take the time to enjoy the local accommodation facilities, eateries and retail outlets.

“To have this event take place within two months of Balmoral Show is fantastic news for the local Lisburn economy; and I am delighted to have the opportunity to support such a well-established sporting championship.

“The Council is delighted with the increasing number of high profile events of various sizes taking place at Balmoral Park within the Maze Long Kesh site and it looks forward to continuing its relationship with the RUAS and its partners,” he concluded.
