Should Tim stay or should he go?

YOU have been writing in to the Star sportsdesk about our interview with Distillery manager Tim McCann and his hope that he would still be in charge at Ballyskeagh come the start of next season.

In last week’s edition the Whites boss said, “I’m not going to walk away from the job. I want to be there next season no matter what happens.

“Distillery are a great club with loyal fans and good people around the place. I want to bring them success because they deserve it.

“When I joined the club there was only one player on the books. Everyone else was out of contract while seven or eight players had joined other clubs, plus our budget was cut in half.

“I honestly thought that we could improve our position with what we had and by blooding though a few of the younger players, but it looks like it’s going to be another rebuilding job.”

Some of you have been keen to see him stay, while others think that it’s time for him to move on.

Here’s what you had to say...

TIME FOR CHANGE

In response to Tim McCann’s interview in last week’s Star I can’t help but feel that his time at the club may well be coming to an end.

In his interview last week he talked about rebuilding for the future but barring a few exceptions his signings this season have been largely disappointing so I’d be worried about him having the ability to take on another huge rebuilding job ahead of next season, which will most likely be necessary regardless of what division we’re in.

I think all Distillery fans would like to see some form of stability but not for stability’s sake and only if the correct manager is in place and we’re making some sort of progress on the pitch, which this season we haven’t and three league wins all season should tell everyone that.

I’ve nothing against Tim McCann but I feel this job may have not been the right fit for him.

If he was to leave in the summer then I’d wish him all the best and hope he would get back involved with football in one way or another.

GIVE THE BOSS A CHANCE - IT’S NOT ALL HIS FAULT

I felt compelled to write this week to congratulate Tim McCann on standing up to the boo boys and stating his intention to remain at Lisburn Distillery.

He is not the only one to blame for our current position. Week in and week out players have not performed when they have crossed the white line. A manager can only prepare a player so much and but once they step onto the pitch they have to take responsibility for their performances. I don’t think they have done that this year.

Tim is working with one of the smallest - if not the smallest - budgets in the league. In this time of financial hardship for businessess I’m sure everyone can relate to what it’s like with a limited budget. It is harder and harder to get the results required. Have supporters played their part by supporting fundraising functions? Have enough of these been organised? I’m not having a go at anyone - I know there are many, many hard working people at the club, but these are questions that need to be asked.

There is one thing that Tim said that was correct. Lisburn Distillery are a great club with a proud history. We have had setbacks before, arguably ones worse than this one when we forced out of Grosvenor Park and left to become the Irish League’s nomads. We have bounced back before and I have every faith that we will do so again with Tim McCann at the helm.

I wish him every success for the future with Lisburn Distillery FC.

Everything’s going to be all White
