Neil fails in his quest for British crown

Lisnagarvey’s Neil Mulholland failed in his quest to win the British Isles Singles Championship in Scotland last weekend.

He had the misfortune of receiving the only preliminary round tie but came through it with an impressive 21-15 win over L. Williamson, England.

But, in the semi-final he fell behind early on against J. Lowry, Jersey and though pulling back in the later stages, still lost 17-21. At least he has the consolation of playing in the British Isles Championships.

Neil, along with Scott Jess, from Garvey also played for the Irish International team. Former Hilden bowler, now with Old Bleach, Stephen Kirkwood was also on the team.

Turning to the NIBA Championships, Philip Cromie and Noel Graham have reached the semi-finals and will play G. McGleave, Divis during the week commencing Monday, July 27.

Two bowlers who play short mat for Hillsborough Social, are on course to meet in the NIBA Junior Singles final.

Nathan Haire, Dromore, plays D. Anderson, Castle in one semi-final and Scott Jess, Lisnagarvey, meets R. McKeown, Whitehead in the other last four game. These games are also durin the July 27 week.

Soldierstown tournaments finish

Soldierstown Summer Indoor Bowling Tournaments finished on Saturday night and the organisers wish to thank all those who supported them.

The event was again a huge success and this was due to all who helped in any way.

The last winners of the season were ladies, Irene Cunningham and gent’s, Frank Todd.

Eglantine summer tournaments

The annual summer indoor bowling tournaments at Eglantine have commenced and will continue throughout the summer months from 7.30 pm each evening.

A warm welcome is extended to everyone to come along and enjoy an evening of fun and friendship.

Jean and Richard are winners

The latest winners at the summer indoor bowling tournaments in Seymour Street Lisburn Methodist were Jean Hewitt and Richard Sale.

They will finish next week from 7.30pm. Hope you can attend. All will be made very welcome.

Hilden win a real thriller

Hilden grabbed five points from their visit to Comber in Private Greens Division 2, but the game went right down to the last end.

Keith Morrison had cancelled out defeats for Jonathan McMullan and Raymond Gourley with a 25 shots win.

But, Colin Montgomery was playing the last end with the overall scores level and his own individual score 16-16.

Davy Ferguson to the rescue when he landed his delivery on the jack and it could not be moved, leaving Hilden with a one shot win and five points.

Keith the only winner

Keith Morrison was the only Hilden winner when they lost away to Cliftonville in Private Greens Division 2 on Tuesday night.

But, there were only eight shots in it with Colin Montgomery, Raymond Gourley and Jonathan McMullan all losing narrowly.

Hilden ease to seven points

Hilden B eased to a 72 shots home win at home to Comber and they took all seven points in Private Greens Division 5.

Comber could only field 13 players and were quartered on three rinks.

A four and a three helped Robin Campbell to a 14-5 lead at the tenth and he went on to win by 11 shots.

Two threes, a seven and a five gave Drew Harron a 15-4 lead at the tenth and Hilden added two more threes, a four and a six to win by 34 shots.

John Jordan was 18-5 ahead at the tenth and 21-11 at 15 ends before winning by nine shots.

A five at the tenth gave Hugh Murray a 12-5 lead and Hilden pulled away to win by 18 shots.

Noel gets Garvey’s only win

Noel Graham was the only Lisnagarvey winner when they lost by 25 shots away to Lurgan in NIBA Division 1 on Tuesday night.

Ivan Craig lost by three shots and Martin Nelson, skipping for the unavailable, Neil Mulholland, also lost, while Philip Cromie went down heavily.

Just over a month ago Garvey beat Lurgan with something to spare in the NIBA Senior Cup, but the home team turned the tables on this occasion.

Garvey’s game with Balmoral on Saturday was postponed as Neil Mulholland and Scott Jess were involved in the British Isles International Series.

Six points boost for Garvey B

Lisnagarvey B left their poor form behind them when they took six points from a five shots home win over Musgrave in NIBA Division 3.

Down 9-11 at the tenth Alton lifted a four but trailed 14-15 at 15 ends before coming back to get the winning shot at the last end.

Down 6-12 at the tenth and 7-19 at 15 ends Jim Chapman pulled back but still lost by six shots.

A three gave Bobby Carroll a 9-5 lead at the tenth and 15-9 at 15 ends and though Garvey slipped a little they still won by three shots.

Ahead 9-7 at the tenth and 14-8 at 15 ends Ken Armstrong lifted a four at 17 ends, then dropped a three at the last end but still won by seven shots.
