Pedestrians have to sprint

IN November 1986 pedestrians using the road crossing point at the Longstone Street-Warren Gardens-Tonagh Drive junction had just 12 seconds in which to make it to the other side.

This was confirmed for Alderman Ivan Davis by the Department of the Environment‘s Road Service staff. Alderman Davis requested figures relating to the problem following protests by residents.

Mr Davis received a reply which outlined the 12 second timescale, including six seconds of the ‘walking man’.
