Neville and Laura are the main winners as 200 people take part in the popular Lisburn Triathlon

The City of Lisburn Triathlon and Aquathon, held on Sunday July 20, at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex in Lisburn saw 200 participants take part.

The City of Lisburn Triathlon is a ‘Sprint Triathlon’ involving a 750m pool swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.

The event is suitable for both first-time and more experienced athletes. It showcases the athletes’ true strength and endurance on the day, following months of training.

In the Male Open Category of the Triathlon Neville O’Neill came first with an overall finishing time of 00:56:52, with runner-up Michael Sinton finishing with a time of 00:59:27.

In the Female Open Category Laura Wylie was crowned first with an overall finishing time of 01:07:07, closely followed by runner-up Anne Paul who finished in 01:07:45.

Speaking about the event the Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, Alderman Paul Porter said: “I would like to congratulate all the winners and indeed everyone who put their skill and competitive drive to the test in this high-stamina event.

“The council is very proud of its sporting culture and sporting talent in our city, and will continue to develop it.

“I would also like to extend my congratulations to the winners and participants of the Junior Aquathon event.”

The Kids Aquathon Race which is split into two categories of Under 12s and Under 15s consists of a 200m swim followed by 2000m (2K) run. The U12 female winner was Ruby McNiff and the U15 female winner was Lauren Strange.

In the male U12 Ben Harding finished first with Paul Cox securing first in the U15 category.
