The 2016 MRA Motocross Championships, which begin this month, were officially launched at a press conference held at the Island Centre in Lisburn last week.
At the event, Lisburn’s Richard Bird announced that he will be competing in both MX1 and MX2 in 2016.
The reigning Irish Champion, looking fit and well, said that it had been five or six years since he last raced in MX2 but was looking forward to taking on the ‘youngsters’.
The big news for 2016 is the introduction of a new marketing strategy for the Ulster Solo Motocross Championships to stimulate excitement amongst riders & spectators.
Highlights include a new logo, new signage to the tracks and at the tracks, a dedicated website for the Championship at www.ulstermx.com, dedicated Facebook page and Twitter feed, and video highlight packages created by Neil Mckeown of T9 images which will be available after the event.
The races themselves will have a new look with the Norman Watt Motorcycles Premier MX1 Class running concurrently with the Precise Protect Insurance Semi Expert MX1 Class, and the Nutt Travel Premier MX2 will run concurrently with the Matheson Contracts/Laverty Motocross semi Expert MX2 Class. There will still be Championships for all classes.
Russells Motorcycles Clubman MX1 & Spence Racing Clubman MX2 will remain the same.
On the Sidecarcross Championship front, the Sidecarcross Supporters Club are joined by another new sponsor in LPL Supplements, while the Quadcross Championships are sponsored once again by the Ballymac Hotel but are joined by new sponsors, Gilchrist Plant Hire, Lloyd Acoustics, and the Southern Quad Centre.
The Youth Quadcross Challenge has been upgraded to a full Ulster Championship for 2016 as well.
Junior Quads still retain their popular grass track based Youth Quad Championship, and the Ulster Youth Solo Championships are once again supported by HTM Off Road, the Ulster Husqvarna dealership based in Culleybackey.
Dates for two British Championships Ulster were also confirmed. 30th April for the British Quadcross Championship, and 12th June for the MAXXIS British Motocross Championship, both at Desertmartin.
