South Antrim Fives are through to round three of the Minor Cup after a 3-0 win over Inst Fives.
South started brightly and took the match to Inst, pressing well up the pitch but their opponents looked dangerous on the break.
Defensive duo Wallace and Smylie calmly dealt with any attack. South’s pressure soon paid off when Cain Brown crossed the ball across the Inst goal for McElhinney to deflect the ball in at the far post.
South continued to pass the ball well across the back and through midfield. McElhinney slotted a pass through to Pyper who pushed the ball past the keeper only to be floored and was awarded a penalty-flick. He picked himself off the floor and calmly converted the flick to go in 2-0 up at half-time.
The second half started with South continuing to press with Wallace controlling the defence and intercepting Inst’s attacks.
On winning a short corner, John Massey steeped up to take on his come back appearance and blasted the ball in to go 3-0 up. In the last minute of the game, Inst were awarded a flick. However, keeper Sloan’s intimidating stance forced the Inst forward to miss.
