This week’s Medal competition at Lambeg Golf Club was sponsored by Ritchie Gorman Kitchen Design and was won by Stephen Johnston (12).

After an outstanding performance, Stephen went round in 70 strokes, 58 net and 8 under par.

His round included birdies at the 6th, 9th and 11th, all par four holes, and with a par score at a further eight holes the result was never in doubt. In fact there was nothing higher than a five on his card.

Chris Maguire (16) parred the first two holes but they were cancelled out when he double bogeyed the third. Birdies at 6 and 8 and with a par in between got him back in touch reaching the turn in 35 (27).

Chris almost blew his chances when he scored a triple bogey at the 11th but he recovered hitting 4 pars towards the end and finishing on 75 gross to take second place with 59 net.

Third place was won by the unpredictable Bobby Meehan (23). Bobby hit a couple of double bogeys in the front nine but there was also a couple of pars as well and he managed 31 net for the front nine. His back nine got off to a terrible start with a triple bogey at 10 but young at heart Bobby didn’t panic and with 4 pars within the last six holes he come in with a brilliant net 60.

Stephen Thornhill won Best Gross with 72.

Next week is President’s Day and for the first time the “shot-gun” start will be used with all players teeing-off at 8.30am.

The club used this format on Captain’s Day and it was a great success. President Ritchie Gorman is expecting a large turn-out on the day and can only hope that the weather improves.

There will be a barbecue organised by “the Chipped Potato” at around 1.00pm for the members immediately after the competition and the prize giving will be at 3.00pm. All prize winners must attend to collect their prizes.

The Wednesday Hat was won by Nichlaus Lavery with 40 points.
