Ten players from Lisburn Taekwondo Club recently travelled to London for the British Taekwondo Nationals.
The local club had 10 players who helped form the team with the United Taekwondo Association of Northern Ireland who attended the Nationals held at the K2 Arena in Crawley.
The competition had over 400 players from all over the UK, and held on February 28 and March 1.
Lisburn Taekwondo club had great success bringing back a total of six Gold, six Silver and four Bronze medals.
For some players this was their first competition outside Northern Ireland. All players performed to the best of their ability making this the club’s best ever performance at this event.
They now have British Champions in their categories with Amy Stewart, Emily Macmanus (missing in pic) Rachel Lawlor, Sharon Reilly, Neil Reilly, Joshua Reid, and Victoria Kirkpatrick.
The Northern Ireland team also came away with 1st place team trophy for having the best team there on the day.
Instructor Peter Stewart commented: “As an Instructor I know the time and effort that all members from the club put into their training both at class and outside of class.
“It’s great to go to a competition and watch them perform to the best of their ability and bring home a medal.
“A special mention must go to Amy Stewart and Emily MacManus who are unbeaten in the team event for the past 18 months. They have won Gold at the Inter-club,Northern Ireland International, All Ireland Championships and the Copenhagen International in Denmark. This is a great achievement winning gold at every event they have competed at.”
Meanwhile, Peter and fellow club member Laura Burns are currently on the Great Britain squad and travel to train with the squad throughout the year.
