Interest in cycling is now higher than ever in Northern Ireland both on and off road as a result of events such as the Giro D’Italia and the opening of new mountainbike trail centres in places such as Castlewellan and Rostrevor.

For anybody between the ages of 5-11, Maryland are pleased to announce the launch of their Cycling Ireland accredited Sprocket Rocket coaching program sponsored by DE Services.

The course will begin on the 13th April at Wallace High School and aims to teach 5-11 year olds the basics of cycling using both indoor and outdoor facilities.

Please see club website, www.marylandwheelers.com, or their Facebook page for further details and how to sign up.

RACING UPDATE

Aside from this, the racing members of the club have been busy this last couple of weeks, concentrating on road racing events.

The club were delighted to field a team consisting of Josh Murray, Adam Piper and Colin McKee in the prestigious Mayo Ras held by Covery Wheelers in Westport.

Over 80 cyclists were entered for the event with Adam Piper finishing in the top 20.  Back north, the club also fielded a team in the Carn Classic last Sunday, including newcomer Andy McClintock. Adam Piper was again top Marylander, finishing in the top 15.
