The Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council honoured the young sports stars of Harmony Hill Primary School recently.
Councillor Thomas Beckett invited the children to a ‘Sporting Lunch’ to mark the amazing achievements of the Lambeg school in various sports this year.
In the school’s 50th Anniversary Year, the trophy haul was very impressive:
• Northern Ireland Girls’ Hockey Champions
• Ulster League and Cup Double Winners – Girls’ Badminton
• Ulster League and Cup Double Winners – Boys’ Badminton
• Belfast and District Athletics Champions
• Lisburn and District Soccer Champions
• Lisburn and Castlereagh Girls’ Soccer Champions
School Principal, Mr Harry Greer, commented, “The Mayor’s gesture was very much appreciated and was the icing on the cake for our young sports stars after a record breaking year.
“The school staff, who have given so much of their time and been so dedicated to providing outstanding opportunities for the children, deserve enormous credit as do the children’s parents who have been such active supporters throughout.”
During the school year, the pupils from Harmony Hill enjoyed great sporting success, with the Badminton teams completing an amazing double double.
The Lambeg school won the Girls’ Ulster League and Ulster Cup double, followed immediately by the Boys’ Ulster League and Cup Double.
Meanwhile, the Girls’ Hockey Team were undefeated in winning the Lisburn and District Primary Schools’ Championship and went on to represent the City at the Northern Ireland Finals.
The hockey girls were then crowned the Northern Ireland Champions, completing a whole season without a single defeat.
As well as various success in athletics and soccer, there were further celebrations when pupils Mackenzie Connor and Jamie McDonnell were selected for the IFA Development Squad.
