Aghagallon’s Marie Corey turned in a great performance to reach the final of the IIBA ladies singles.

The qualifiers for the finals of the Nationals took place at Belfast Stadium and Marie was never in any trouble as she eased through a strong field to reach the semi-final.

The game against G. Roullier, Killany was easily negotaited with a 10-4 win and Marie will represent Lisburn Zone in the final on March 28.

But, she has a tough assignment against the holder, Pauline Beattie, who has won the ladies title on six occasions and Marie will have to be at her best.

If Marie wins the title she will be the frst woman from Lisburn Zone to win the Irish ladies singles since Mrs Armour, 1st Lisburn, way back in 1970/71.

Nick Haire, Hillsborough Social, also had a good run in the open singles, reaching the semi-final and giving Kevin Conroy, Redeemer, a tough battle before losing 9-7.

It was a game that could have went either way and a good performance to reach the last four in a strong field.
