The first round of the new year Winter League got under way at Lisburn last Saturday.
There was a good entry considering the extremely cold conditions.
The competition was divided into three sections with prizes for the top two cards. Chris Davis had the best score of the day over the front nine holes.
Playing off a handicap of 20 Chris holed his third shot at the seventh for a birdie three. This gave him five points.
He finished with two pars for another six points and a total of 23 to win Section 3.
David Johnston (22) and Adam Beatty (28) finished on 21. A four pointer at the seventh helped David secure second place on count back.
Four players tied at the top of Section 1 with 22 points. Darren Welsh (12) finished with 13 points on the last five holes. He had a stroke at the ninth for three points to win on the last hole from Gregory Law (11).
Ian Sayers (10) and Michael McCaughan (10) also finished on 22.
Martin Blakely (14) and Peter Richardson (19) tied at the top of Section 2 with 21 points.
Martin’s better finish secured top spot. Stephen Jeffers, Trevor Doak and Michael Rooney all scored 20 points.
Few twos were scored on Saturday. Trevor Doak was the only player who had a birdie at the fourth while Richard McDermot had an eagle two at the third. There were five twos at the sixth.
Wednesday Stableford: 1st David Johnston 22 points, 2nd Andrew Parr 21 after a tie with Joe McCullough.
