South Antrim Ladies Thirds advanced to the next round of the Minor Plate with a superb 3-0 win over Owls Thirds.
Player of the Match Amy Wright netted twice while she also teed up Laura McConnell for the local ladies’s second goal of the day.
Hot on the heels of their first win of the season last week, the South girls started the game in buoyant mood, not giving the opposition a chance to catch their breath.
And no sooner had the game begun than they were ahead as the impressive Amy Wright opened the scoring in the first minute to slip one past a very surprised Owls goalkeeper.
Keeping up the pressure, Amy nearly got her second as she found Laura McConnell and got a clean shot on the return only for the Owls keeper to deflect the ball past the post.
Erin McCandless and Catherine Faulkner worked hard down the right to create a few more chances but Owls stood firm and attempted a comeback but the defence held firm with Hazzard, Doyle and Glove closing them down at every opportunity.
When they did manage to get through, the ever impressive Mills was on hand to ensure a clean sheet at half time.
When the second half commenced, Owls seemed ready to take the offensive but Hazzard and Johnston had other ideas and soon ensured the young South team had another chance to finish the game. Wright again took the opportunity and after dribbling her way around half the team, found the edge of the circle and fired a shot at the goals. McConnell then did what she is best at and slipped the ball cleanly past the Owls keeper.
Minutes before the final whistle, Wright struck again to ensure the South Ladies have another chance to get their hands on the Minor plate.
The club send their thanks to Brian Wilson for braving the conditions once again to umpire.
