Lisnagarvey Thirds turn on the style to do the double over Banbridge Seconds

Lisnagarvey Thirds 3

Banbridge Seconds 1

Lisnagarvey Thirds travelled to Havelock at the weekend to take on Banbridge Seconds in a game which saw the welcomed return of Garvey captain Seb Buser from injury. The previous meeting of the two sides saw Garvey win 5-0, so by all means Banbridge were looking for revenge.

The game started off with Garvey setting an excellent pace, and for the first five minutes Banbridge couldn’t get out of their half due to the excellent press put on them by Garvey.

Having won the ball off Banbridge high up the pitch a number of times, Garvey eventually got their reward thanks to a magnificent solo effort from Ryan Kee.

Banbridge grew more into the game after going behind, and Garvey stopped playing the hockey we have been accustomed to from them in recent weeks. It was Garvey who mustered the next chance however, through a short corner. The corner was converted by Richard McConkey at the back post but was controversially disallowed for not hitting the back board. The score remained 1-0 at the half time break.

The second half began with Garvey coming out as the stronger of the two sides, looking for another goal to get into a more comfortable position. The goal eventually came after some excellent play down left hand side and it was Richard McConkey who got the goal he deserved to Garvey 2-0 up.

The game looked to be beyond doubt with Banbridge not looking likely to create a clear cut goal scoring opportunity. With 4 minutes on the clock Banbridge were awarded a short corner which was converted to leave for a nervy final 4 minutes with the score at 2-1.

Garvey hit back almost immediately with an incisive breakaway down the right between Matthew Gleave and Glenn Halliday. It was Gleave who got the goal after a lovely assist from Halliday to put the game beyond doubt and seal a magnificent double over Banbridge Seconds this season for Garvey Thirds.

Garvey would also like to wish Richard Jess all the best on his Ski Season in France after he went out on a high in his last game of the season with this win over Banbridge.
