Lisburn’s talented youth take to the track

YOUNG athletes from Lisburn were out in force to compete in the first round of the Flahavan’s Athletics NI Primary School Cross Country League recently.

David Faulkner from Pond Park Primary School, Lisburn and Rebecca Wallace from Wallace Prep, Lisburn came first in the boys’ and girls’ races respectively with Kyle Moore from Riverdale Primary School, Lisburn placing third in the boys’ race.

Thanks to Athletics NI and Ireland’s leading porridge oats producer, primary school children are being given a ‘sporting chance’ to take part in the League which last year saw over 3,000 pupils competing for a place in the Finals. As well as boys and girls races and a fun run, Athletics NI will also be running a wheelchair section this year, which the organisation hopes will encourage more children with a disability to take part in sport.

The 2012/13 league kicked off on October 15 and will see over 100 Primary Schools taking part across six counties.
