Lisburn team fall by seven shots away to Monaghan

Lisburn lost by seven shots away to Monaghan in the second round of the IIBA Inter Zone competition on Saturday.

They were ten shots down at the break but recovered a little before losing by seven shots.

Afterwards, Zone convenor, Tom Haire said it was a pleasure to manage a team who really supported each other.

In the first half Con Mulholland’s rink of Victor McCarthy, Stephen Irwin and Connor Wilkinson were 3-4 down at the fifth and against F. Maginnis it remained close, going down 6-7.

Michael Reid, Paul Cairnduff, Sid Heazley and Roy Kennedy played P. McCann and after going 0-7 down at five ends they came back to 6-8.

John Connolly, Joe Dunlop, John Mackey and Chris Connolly played T. McIlveen going behind 1-6 at the fifth and losing 3-10.

In the second half Andy Riley, David Lee, Gabriel Brankin and Nick Haire were up against Og Maginnis, taking a 3-2 lead at the fifth before winning 7-4.

Michael Beattie had Jim Harvey, Michael Fell and David Verner on his rink against G. Mowlam. They were 6-1 ahead at the fifth but lost 8-9.

Trevor Heasley, Stevie Mulholland, David Carser and Nathan Haire were level 5-5 at the fifth against B. Maginnis but went on to win 9-8. David Carser had an excellent game here after moving to third.

The ladies team travelled to Foyle on Saturday to play in the first round of the IIBA Inter Zone Plate competition.
