Lisburn snatch narrow win in Sam Rutherford

Lisburn held a seven holes advantage after their home leg.

In the top match at Rossmore Gary Campbell and Rodney Osbourne lost by two holes.

Michael Robinson and Colin Hill were three down when their match finished.

Mark Jamieson and Ben Kirkwood lost by one hole.

The outcome of the tie depended on the final match where Chris Budd and Andy Parr snatched a half to give Lisburn the narrowest victory.

Lisburn defeated Fortwilliam in the quarter-final following a whitewash home victory.

David McAleenan won the top match on the final green. Aaron Marshall, Kyle Patton and Josh Robinson had easy victories.

The fifth Fortwilliam player was unavailable giving Christian Kennedy a 10 & 8 ‘victory’. Fortwilliam conceded the tie and Lisburn march on to the semi-final.

The semi-final and final matches take place at Lurgan this Sunday.

Lisburn teams went out of the Rossmore and Junior Cowdy cup competitions.

Law Trophy

Nearly 140 competitors took part in the Law Trophy at Lisburn last Saturday.

Chris Orr (19) led the field after 18 holes with a net score of 66.

He was closely followed by Paul Thompson (17), Michael Cairns (22) and Mark Stewart (9) on 67.

The ‘Flag’ competition is the competitor who ‘carries’ the flag farthest round the course with his quota of strokes.

Paul and Michael had pars at the first hole while Mark had a birdie four.

He hit his remaining stroke into the trees at the 2nd hole but it was sufficient to win the trophy.

Unfortunately Chris did not fare well at the extra holes.

Mark turned 15 in March and his successes this year has brought his handicap down from 10.3 to 7.6.

Alan Taylor won the Stableford competition played off the yellow tees with 41 points. David Payne was one point behind in second place with Adam Clarke third on 38.
