Lisburn go down fighting in Plate

Foyle 60 Lisburn 42

Lisburn were certainly not disgraced when they lost by 18 shots away to Foyle in the first round of the Ladies Inter Zone Plate.

Indeed, at the half way stage they were a shot ahead thanks to a seven shots win for Carol Kirkwood and narrow defeats for Thelma Irwin and Genni Little.

Zone convenor, Tom Haire, said it was a good performance by the Lisburn team and the scoreline was not a true reflection on the way they played.

In the second half Joan Montgomery came back from 3-7 down to win by three shots but Marie Corey and Muriel McLernon both lost.

Heather Fleming, Winnie Irwin, Anne Creaney and Thelma Irwin were 5-3 up at the fifth but lost 7-9.

Mary Cushnahan, Margaret McCandless, Kathleen McCullough and Gennie Little were 2-7 down at the fifth and lost 5-9.

Maureen Wilson, Jean Cairns, Ruth Neely and Carol Kirkwood had a 5-1 lead at the fifth and won 9-2.

Ethna Rogers, Laura Foote, Sally Cushnahan and Marie Corey were 5-3 ahead at the fifth but fell to a 5-18 defeat.

Agnes Liggett, Patricia McCallion, Patricia Halliday and Joan Montgomery were 3-7 down at the fifth but stormed back to win 11-8.

Dorothy Kinghan, Ciara Haughey, Mary McQuillan and Muriel McLernon were 4-7 down at the fifth and lost 5-14.
