Leading ladies selected at Lisburn Golf Club

Mrs Daphne Bailie was presented with her Captain’s blazer by outgoing Captain, Mrs Margaret Boyd.

Meanwhile, the new Lady President Mrs Joan Gough was also presented with her blazer by past Lady President Mrs Maureen Bryson.

Daphne joined the club in 1984 and follows in the footsteps of her Grandfather, Dr Richard McCandless, who was a past president and captain. As well as her father Robert Greer, her aunt Pearlie Kerr and uncle Joe McCandless, who were all past captains.

Daphne stated: “As incoming Lady Captain I am really looking forward to my year. To represent such a great Golf Club as Lisburn is a privilege.

“It is a pleasure to play our course and we would welcome any ladies and young girls who would like to give golf a try, the ladies are more than willing to go out on the course to encourage and give guidance - also our excellent Professionals Stephen Hamill, Phil and Michael can help you to improve your game.

“There is a Quiz Night organised on Monday March 14 for Charity (Ovarian Cancer Unit at Christie Hospital).

“So a lot to look forward to and hopefully a dry and sunny summer.”

Joan became a member in 1968 and played regularly on the Longstone course.

She was Lady Captain in 1993, when her mother, Mrs Eileen Henry, who was then Lady President - this has been the only mother and daughter team to be in office together.

Joan has represented the club on various teams has won two Captains prizes. She is very much looking forward to the next two years in office and hopes that in the future the ladies branch can encourage more younger members to take up the game, and play on such a magnificent course.

Both these ladies bring a wealth of knowledge to the roles the will play in the coming term.

Speaking after their inauguration, both Daphne and Joan said that they were looking forward to their time in office and thanked the members for their support and wished all players and team captains a successful season.
