A couple of weeks ago he caused an upset by beating Matthew Cheung in a competition on his home courts. Last weekend he was competing in the Under 11 Leinster Open in Baldoyne, and claimed a hat-trick of titles, dominating the age group.

In the Singles, Stuart dropped only eight points against Darragh Ahern and while the semi against Vincent Pontanosa was a closer affair, he was the epitome of consistency and booked his place in the final 21-16 21-12.

McCollam barely broke a sweat in the final against Scott Guides, lifting the first of his three titles 21-10 21-13.

In the Boys Doubles there was only likely to be one winner and that was the top seeded pair from Alpha Stuart McCollam and Matthew Cheung, who came through their semi against Ronan Dunne/Niall McCabe 21-11 21-3 and then beat number two seeds Noble and Pontanosa 21-17 21-11.

Tthe mixed doubles saw McCollam and Chloe Woods capture the title after a straight sets victory over the top seeds Niall McCabe and Nessa Flynn.

Alpha’s Chloe and Paige Woods came within a whisker of the Doubles title, taking the opening set 21-18 off Sarah Barry/Sophia Noble. Even though they saw their opponents take the second 23-21, they kept up the pressure only to have the title snatched from their grasp 23-21 in a 45 minute encounter.
