Haire ‘nicks’ a treble at Lisburn Zone Qualifiers

Nick Haire, Hillsborough Social, won his way through to three National finals at the Lisburn Zone qualifiers at Eglantine Parish hall on Saturday night.

He won the singles, triples and fours, which also gave Andy Riley and Nathan Haire a double and Robert Jess joined them in the fours.

There was also two wins for Eddie Marsden and Paul Reid, who won through in the singles and joined to win the pairs.

National singles: Eddie Marsden was 4-2 ahead at the fifth but Nathan Haire led 5-4 at the seventh before Marsden came back to win 9-5.

Nick Haire was 4-2 up at the fifth and lifted a four on his way to an 11-3 win over Gordon Stubbs.

Paul Reid was always on top against Raymond Stubbs and won with something to spare.

National pairs: Gordon and Raymond Stubbs, Ballinderry started with a three, but Philip Dennison/Noel Graham, Loughaghery got a four next end and led 6-5 at the fifth. In a closely fought game the Stubbs brothers got home by a shot.

National triples: after starting with a three Andy Riley, Nathan and Nick Haire were 6-1 up at the fourth and beat Desmond Brownlie, Dennison and Raymond Gourley, Loughaghery 10-2.

National fours: Riley, Robert Greer, Nathan and Nick Haire were 5-4 up at the fifth and lifted six and three to beat Albert Morrison, Noel Marsden, David Peden and Michael Beattie, Ballinderry 14-4.

Over-55 pairs: at the sixth John Mackey/David Johnston, Soldierstown were 5-4 ahead against Eddie and Noel Marsden Ballinderry and went on to win 11-4.

Ladies singles: by five ends Marie Corey, Aghagallon was 8-0 ahead and though Amanda Carser, Hillsborough Social came back Corey won 10-3.

Ladies pairs: Jean and Karen Ellison, St Mark’s were 6-1 up at the fifth, but Winnie and Thelma Irwin, Sloan Street, came back to 7-7 with an end left only to lose 7-8.

Ladies triples: in the all-Eglantine final Agnes Liggett, Mary McQuillan and Muriel McLernon and Ruth Neely, Dorothy Kinghan and Jean Parkinson were level 2-2 but Parkinson led 7-4 at the seventh and won 9-5.

Junior singles: at the fourth Conway Elwood, Loughaghery was 5-0 ahead but David Carser, Seymour Hill, came back to 6-5 at the seventh and went on to win 8-7.
