Gutsy performance from South Seconds yet again

South Antrim Seconds 3

Mossley Thirds 4

South Seconds put in another gutsy performance but again left empty-handed with defeat to Mossley Thirds.

South were eager to build on an encouraging performance against Bangor last time out and began the game with some nice passing moves in midfield. As usual Jack Redpath was orchestrating most of the play with Darren Hutchinson leading the line well in front of him.

Mossley, though were able to disrupt the flow of the game and were able to win a number of free hits in the South half. One of these led to a defensive mix up which eventually saw the ball roll over the line despite Hutchinson’s best attempts at keeping it out.

South soon found themselves another goal behind when the ball broke into the right hand side of the circle, a forward easily dispatched the loose ball to give the away side a 2 goal lead. South did pull a goal back with a good finish from Wilson but would go into the break a goal down. South came out in the second half with a renewed vigour after a disjointed and clunky first half performance but disaster struck when Hutchinson received his marching orders for a professional foul outside the circle, this meant South had to change their goalkeeper. Neil Wilson bravely stepped up and made a number of important saves but could do nothing about a deflected effort which looped over his head and into the goal to restore the away team’s 2 goal advantage. With Chris Redpath moving into midfield the home team began to dictate the play, they pulled one goal back through Hutchinson then Redpath himself scored from a short corner. South had full control of the game at this point and went extremely close to a winner through Calum McCandless and Alan Hamilton only to see Mossley win a short corner on the break and nick the points.
