William tops scoring in PGA Tankard at Rockmount

THE annual PGA Tankard qualifying competition was played in pleasant conditions at Rockmount Golf Club on Saturday April 27.

William Wilson (17) topped the scoring with 40 points, scoring 21 points on the front nine and 19 points on the back. Lewis Patmore (07) and Stephen Dunlop (14) both scored 39 points but Lewis’ 20 points on the back nine secured him second place. Stephen won the mid-section (12-17).

The low section (0-11) was won by Stephen Price (11) with 38 points and the high section (18-28) was won by Rodney Allen (22) also with 38 points. The best gross on the day was scored by Lewis Patmore with 76 but having finished second the prize went to the next best gross 78; scored by Colin McClenaghan (02).

The Ulster Four-ball team welcomed Down Royal Golf Club to Rockmount on Sunday for the return leg of this year’s first round match. The away leg was shared 2.5 – 2.5 with Down Royal six holes to the good.

The Belfast and District team faced Blackwood Golf Club in the return leg of this preliminary round match. The first leg played at Blackwood Golf Club on Thursday was very fruitful for the Rockmount Team when they won 5 – 2 and needed only 2.5 at home to reach the next round.

Rockmount juniors also had a team playing in the Norman Drew competition; they travelled the short distance to Shandon Park Golf Club.
