The first two holes were halved and then Tom sliced his tee shot at the third into the trees.

He could just hope that he could hit his second shot through a narrow gap in the trees and keep the ball below the overhanging branches. He used a driver and played the shot to perfection. The ball landed just short of the green, checked and ran to within two feet of the flag for a birdie three. He followed with a birdie two at the fourth to put his side in control and went on to win by 4 and 2.

Earlier the tied match involving Tom Beattie & Andrew Gibb and George Stephens & David McDowell was settled at the second hole which Tom won with a net four.

The favourites for the Lisburn Winter league Neil Thompson and Norman Lambe remain unbeaten as they defeated Graham Kerr and Brian Sparkes. Neil covered the first six holes in two under par. The first hole was halved in birdie fours but Neil and Norman went one ahead with a par at the short third. Neil holed a long putt on the fifth to put his side two ahead. The remaining holes were halved to give them victory on the eighth green.

Declan Marsden and Mark Jamison got off to a great start in their match against Mervyn Hewitt and Mervyn Law. They won the first two holes but lost the seventh to remain one up. Mark almost reached the eighth green in two and chipped close to win the hole and the match with a birdie four.

Roy Stewart and Kenny Gilmore were not at their best against Robert Patterson and David Phelan and were duly beaten 2 and 1.
