Temporary greens in wintry conditions at Lisburn Golf Club

Due to the cold and wet conditions last weekend, Lisburn golfers had to contend with temporary greens.

The shortened front nine course had the usual effect of providing some very good scores.

Philip Sanaghan (12) started with a bogey six but completed the remainder of the course in one under par for 24 points to win Division 1.

Ivor Walker (13) was second on 21. Norman McNellis (3) completed the nine holes in level par for the third place with 19 points.

A birdie three at the fifth helped Thomas Maher (15) complete the last 7 holes in one under par to win Division 2.

Trevor Doak (17) and Michael Rooney (19) were one point behind with Trevor’s better finish claiming second place.

Chris Scott (22) won Division 3 with 22 points, one ahead of Chris Warwick (23) with Martin McDonald (20) third on 19.

It is going to be a tight finish to the overall competition. Ben Kirkwood leads Division 1 with 103 points. He is one ahead of Noel Robinson, four ahead of Philip Sanaghan and Norman McNellis with Gavin Hawkins and Rodney Osborne on 98.

Brian Wilkinson is a clear leader of Division 2 on 111 points. Michael Rooney is second on 105 with Bob Hope third on 101.

With 104 points Chris Scott has a lead of six over Eric Wilkinson with Chris Warwick third on 96 in Division 3.

Prestwick are still leading the team competition with 571 points. Royal Portrush are now second on 567 with Royal Cinque Ports third.

Four players currently carrying a low score are likely to make the difference in the last week but all members in each team can contribute by bettering their own lowest score out of their best five to date.

Sunday Winter League

There was a close finish to the final round of the Sunday Winter League with David Galway winning with 27 points.

He finished one point ahead of Alan Gilmore with Peter Homes third on 25.

Bob Hope was nearest the flag on the 4th with Jim Burns nearest the flag on the 6th.

Billy Dougherty was the overall winner with 115 points.

Jim Burns was 5 points in arrears in second place with Colin Jeffers third on 105.

The prizes were presented following a magnificent dinner.

Juveniles

Thirteen competitors took part in the Juveniles Winter League: 1st Harry Brown (28) 26 pts, 2nd Henry Thomas (18) 23 pts, 3rd Aaron Marshall (3) 21 pts.
