Summer medal a shining success at Dunmurry GC

Last Saturday the Summer Medal took place at Dunmurry and, despite early morning rain, it turned out to be a great day for golf.

With the competition split into three sections, the winner of Section One (handicap 10 and under) was Ward Farrell (4) with a nett 68, edging Ivor Moffitt (10) into second place with the better back nine.

Ward went round the front in two over par gross, dropping two shots at the second and one at the sixth, but pulled one shot back with a well-taken birdie at the fifth.

Another birdie at the start of his back nine at the 10th and a dropped shot at the par three 16th combined with pars at the other seven holes and was enough to win Section One.

Ivor had to settle for second, after going round both nines in four over par, but a double bogey on the 18th cost him overall victory.

Section Two (11-18) – was won by CJ Whyte (13) with a nett 66.

He got off to a great start with a birdie three at the first and carded pars at the fourth and seventh to go round the front nine in a five over par 40.
