Sheila proves a popular winner at Lady Captain’s Day

The 2014 Lady Captain’s prizes at Lisburn GC were contested on a course playing fast and slick, conditions that tested the experience and patience of many of the competitors.

The Lady Captain, Gil Colvin was glad to see a dry day forecast with slightly lower temperatures than in recent days.

There was a large turnout of members competing for a glorious array of prizes with a watch as the main prize and silver and glass forming the theme of the remainder of the prizes.

The ladies and visitors were welcomed with a glass of well deserved Pimms and enjoyed a beautiful meal prepared by Albert and served by Jane and her team.

Announced to great acclaim, the winner of the Captain’s Prize was Mrs Sheila Cromie playing off a handicap of 19. As a long time member, Sheila was a very popular winner, scoring 39 points and going to show that age is no barrier to good golf and effective course management.

Section A 1st Julie Robinson 35 pts, 2nd Bernie MacDonald 35 pts, 3rd Maureen Bryson 34 pts. Section B 1st Janet Walker 36 pts, 2nd Janice Orr 34 pts, 3rd Aileen Wright 34 pts. Section C 1st Margaret Walker 37 pts, 2nd Margaret Weir 37 pts, 3rd Freda Douglas 36 pts.

The Gross prize was won by Janice Wallace with Ann Gowan taking the front nine prize and Hazel McNally taking the back nine, each with 20 points.

The Committee prize went to Valerie Rooney and the Past Captain’s prize to Ann Shane, with Beth Kee taking the nine hole honours.

In the spot prizes, nearest the pin at the 6th went to Julie Robinson and the 18th went to Doreen Green (from Valerie Rooney) and nearest the line was won by Iris Orr. The putting prize was won by Brenda Maxwell and Linda Symington was the only competitor with a two.

The visitor’s prizes were won by Nancy Sparling from California with Sam taking the gents prize. Glen McCambley took the Gents prize with 21 points.

The Lady Captain thanked all the ladies who had helped to make her day so special, from the Committee Members to the ladies who arranged the beautiful flowers, Hilary Morrison and Ena Roulston.
