Rockmount in with a chance of first green pennant

The Jimmy Carroll team is made up of men who are aged 60+ and Rockmount’s lads will now play in the All Ireland final at Westmanstown Golf Club in Dublin on the 14 July.

This will be Rockmount’s first opportunity to win an All Ireland pennant.

OPEN WEEK RESULTS

The traditional first completion of Open Week was played on Sunday 8 June.

As always, there was a good entry for the Mixed Greensomes.

The winners with a great score of 40 points were M Toner and B Toner. Second place went to Leone Power and her partner E Coburn with 38 points.

Three pairs scored 37 points with positions decided on count back. In third place was Douglas Bain and Jenny Bain; in fourth Mark Wynn and Anne Wynn with fifth place going to Robert and Diane Patterson.

The best gross on the day was a great score of four over par 76 by B Marson and B Marson.

There were two competitions on Monday, the Ladies Three Ball Scramble and the Gents Seniors. The ladies scramble was won by Jenny Bain, Bernie Traill and Carol Blythe with 74 points. The Gents Seniors was won by Neill Dunlop (16) with 40 points beating Jimmy Robinson (07) by a single point.

Third place went to Sean Halls (25) with 36 points and on the same score fourth place went to Colin Bell (10). Mark Kyle (12) was fifth with 35 points.

The best gross was by Michael Stewart (05) with a three over par round of 75.

On Tuesday 10 June Robert Carlisle (19) blew the field away with a great score of 44 points. His nearest rival was Adam Foreman (03) on 38 points. Third place and fourth place also scored 38 points.

Gordon Goodfellow (13) and Jonathan Patterson (03) with Andrew Mulholland (12) fifth with 36 points. The best gross was a level par round of 72 by Darren McConnell (03). Wednesday 11 June was dominated by visitors who took first, third and gross prizes.

C Moulds (01) was first with 39 points. His two under par gross score was also five better than the gross prize winner. Second, third and fourth matched the winner’s score of 39 points and places were decided on count back; Simon Gray (10) was second, Sam McCallister (18) third and Arthur Holywood (24) fourth. Fifth place went to Gary Smith (13) with 38 points.

The gross prize went to Gary Doherty (06) with a three over par score of 75.

he same score of 39 points won Thursday stableford competition. Jonathan Patterson (03) was first with 39 points. Second and third both scored 38 points, Michael Bingham (23) was second and David Stronge (20) was third.

Nick Fullerton (17) and Robert Patterson (12) both scored 37 points with Nick fourth and Robert fifth. The gross prize went to James McVicker (01) with a one over par score of 73.

On Friday 13 June, two of the low men combined to win the gents fourball competition; Adam Foreman and Jonathan Patterson who both play off three combined well to score an excellent 43 points beating two former club-captains Ronnie Cole and Robert Patterson by one point. Also on 42 points was Martin Lawther and Colin Childs. Thomas Gibson and James Hume were fourth with 40 points beating Mark Stewart and Paul Mearns into fifth place, on count-back.

The final competition of the week was the Open Stroke competition which always attracts a large entry. Gordon Goodfellow having been cut to 12 after his third place finish on Tuesday had a four par round of 76 for a nett 64. Gordon’s winning score was three shots better than second placed Neill Reid (12) nett score of 67.

Third place went to Darren Majury (10) with a nett 68, Vice Captain Ed Donaldson (07) was fourth with a nett 70 and Stephen Clarke fifth with a nett 71. The best gross on the day was by Colin McClenaghan (02) who had a two over par 74.
